Abstract The increasing adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems has transformed automated decision-making processes across healthcare, finance, business intelligence, public administration, and intelligent technological environments. AI models provide significant advantages in processing large-scale information, identifying complex patterns, and generating predictive outcomes. However, the growing complexity of advanced AI algorithms has created challenges related to transparency, interpretability, accountability, and user trust. Many high-performing AI models operate as complex computational structures where the reasoning behind generated decisions remains difficult for human users to understand.
Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) has emerged as an important research area focused on improving the transparency and interpretability of AI-driven decision processes. This research article examines major explainable AI techniques that support transparent automated decision-making by providing meaningful explanations of model behaviour and decision outcomes. The study analyses approaches including feature-based explanation methods, model-specific interpretation techniques, surrogate models, rule-based explanations, and visualization-oriented explanation mechanisms.
The research follows a conceptual analytical methodology based on existing scholarly developments related to explainable AI, machine learning interpretability, and transparent decision-support systems. The study evaluates the importance of explainability in improving human confidence, regulatory compliance, and responsible AI implementation. The analysis highlights that XAI techniques contribute to bridging the gap between complex AI models and human understanding by converting computational processes into interpretable information.
The findings indicate that explainable AI represents a critical component for developing trustworthy automated decision-making systems. However, challenges related to explanation accuracy, computational complexity, standardization, and balancing performance with interpretability remain important considerations. The study concludes that transparent AI decision processes require continuous development of explainability techniques combined with responsible governance and human-centred design principles.
