| Abstract | Artificial intelligence has become an important technological foundation for developing smart systems capable of monitoring, analyzing, predicting, and improving performance across complex operational environments. Conventional performance management approaches frequently depend on historical reporting and manual evaluation, which may limit their ability to identify emerging problems and respond to rapidly changing conditions. AI-based smart systems address these limitations by integrating machine learning, predictive analytics, intelligent automation, real-time monitoring, and adaptive decision-support mechanisms. This study examines the role of AI-based smart systems in enhancing performance management through a qualitative descriptive analysis of secondary scholarly literature. The study focuses on intelligent monitoring, predictive performance assessment, automated optimization, adaptive decision-making, and continuous system improvement. The findings indicate that AI-enabled performance management can improve operational visibility, identify performance deviations, predict potential failures, optimize resource utilization, and support timely managerial decisions. Smart systems can also integrate information from multiple sources, enabling more comprehensive performance assessment across organizational and technological environments. However, implementation is influenced by data quality, computational requirements, model interpretability, system interoperability, cybersecurity, privacy, and organizational readiness. The analysis demonstrates that AI-based performance management should extend beyond simple automation and incorporate continuous learning, predictive intelligence, and responsible governance. Effective systems require reliable data pipelines, appropriate model validation, human oversight, and mechanisms for monitoring changing performance conditions. The study concludes that AI-based smart systems can significantly strengthen performance management when they are designed as adaptive, transparent, scalable, and human-centered technological frameworks. |
