| Abstract | Intelligent automation has emerged as a significant application of artificial intelligence for developing future systems that can operate with greater autonomy, adaptability, efficiency, and decision-making capability. Traditional automation primarily executes predefined instructions and is therefore limited when operational environments become dynamic or unpredictable. Artificial intelligence extends automation by enabling systems to learn from data, recognize patterns, predict outcomes, optimize processes, and respond to changing conditions. This study examines the role of intelligent automation using artificial intelligence in the development of future systems, with emphasis on machine learning, predictive analytics, intelligent decision support, adaptive control, and autonomous operations. A qualitative descriptive research design was adopted using secondary scholarly literature and thematic analysis. The findings indicate that AI-enabled automation can improve operational efficiency, reduce repetitive human effort, support predictive maintenance, optimize resource utilization, and enhance real-time decision-making. Intelligent automation can also facilitate the development of smart manufacturing, autonomous transportation, intelligent information systems, robotic platforms, healthcare technologies, and digitally integrated organizational environments. However, implementation is influenced by challenges involving data dependency, model reliability, computational requirements, explainability, cybersecurity, interoperability, workforce adaptation, and ethical governance. The analysis suggests that future automation systems should move beyond simple task execution toward adaptive architectures capable of learning and responding to complex environments. The study concludes that intelligent automation can become a major foundation of future technological development when AI capabilities are integrated with robust infrastructure, human oversight, transparent governance, and continuous performance evaluation. |
