Data Science Techniques for Automated Knowledge Extraction

Abstract The rapid growth of digital information has created substantial opportunities for extracting meaningful knowledge from structured, semi-structured, and unstructured datasets. However, the increasing scale and complexity of contemporary data environments make manual knowledge extraction increasingly time-consuming and difficult to sustain. Data science provides an integrated foundation for automated knowledge extraction through statistical analysis, machine learning, natural language processing, data mining, pattern recognition, knowledge representation, and intelligent visualization. This study examines the role of data science techniques in automating the identification, transformation, interpretation, and representation of knowledge from complex information resources. A qualitative descriptive research design based on secondary academic literature was adopted to examine automated data preparation, feature extraction, machine learning, text mining, semantic analysis, knowledge graphs, and predictive analytics. Existing research identifies knowledge mining as an interdisciplinary field combining data mining, machine learning, natural language processing, and knowledge representation to transform heterogeneous information into structured knowledge. The analysis indicates that automated techniques can substantially reduce manual analytical effort while improving the scalability and consistency of knowledge discovery.
Natural language processing can extract entities and relationships from textual resources, while machine learning can classify information, identify patterns, and support prediction. Knowledge graphs can subsequently represent extracted entities and relationships in structured forms suitable for search, reasoning, and downstream applications. Recent research also demonstrates increasing interest in automated scientific discovery and systems capable of supporting knowledge generation from large research collections. Nevertheless, challenges involving data quality, semantic ambiguity, model interpretability, domain adaptation, computational requirements, privacy, and validation remain significant. The study concludes that effective automated knowledge extraction requires an integrated data science framework combining robust preprocessing, intelligent modeling, semantic representation, validation, and human oversight. Future systems should emphasize explainable artificial intelligence, domain-aware language models, multimodal knowledge extraction, adaptive learning, automated scientific discovery, and trustworthy knowledge representation.
