| Abstract | The rapid expansion of smartphones and connected mobile devices has transformed mobile applications into essential platforms for delivering digital services across healthcare, education, finance, commerce, transportation, governance, and entertainment. Smart digital services require mobile applications that can provide responsive interfaces, secure transactions, personalized experiences, real-time communication, and reliable access across diverse devices and network conditions. This study examines mobile application development frameworks for smart digital services, focusing on native, cross-platform, hybrid, progressive, cloud-integrated, and intelligent application development approaches. A qualitative descriptive research design based on secondary academic literature was adopted to examine the contribution of mobile development frameworks to application performance, scalability, usability, interoperability, security, maintainability, and intelligent service delivery. The analysis demonstrates that native development provides strong platform-specific performance and access to device capabilities, whereas cross-platform frameworks can reduce development duplication and support broader deployment. Hybrid and progressive approaches provide additional flexibility for applications requiring web-based technologies and cross-device accessibility. Cloud integration strengthens backend scalability and data availability, while artificial intelligence, Internet of Things integration, location services, and real-time analytics enable mobile applications to become increasingly intelligent and context-aware. However, framework selection introduces challenges involving performance differences, platform compatibility, security vulnerabilities, application maintenance, device fragmentation, data privacy, development expertise, and framework dependency. The study concludes that future smart digital services require development frameworks that balance performance, development efficiency, security, interoperability, scalability, and user experience. An effective framework strategy should be selected according to application requirements rather than based solely on technological popularity. Future research should focus on AI-assisted mobile development, adaptive cross-platform architectures, privacy-preserving mobile intelligence, edge-enabled mobile applications, sustainable application development, and autonomous application optimization. |
