| Abstract | The increasing complexity of modern computational systems has created a strong demand for algorithms capable of processing large datasets, solving complex problems, and delivering reliable results within constrained computational resources. Algorithm design plays a central role in determining computational efficiency because the structure of an algorithm directly influences execution time, memory requirements, scalability, and resource utilization. This study examines advanced algorithm design approaches for improving computational efficiency across modern computing environments. The study focuses on algorithmic paradigms including divide-and-conquer, dynamic programming, greedy optimization, graph-based methods, heuristic approaches, approximation algorithms, parallel algorithms, randomized algorithms, and adaptive techniques. A qualitative descriptive research design based on secondary academic literature was adopted to analyze how these approaches contribute to efficient computation. The analysis demonstrates that algorithmic efficiency depends on appropriate problem decomposition, data structures, computational complexity, resource allocation, and optimization strategies. Divide-and-conquer methods can reduce computational complexity by decomposing large problems into smaller subproblems, while dynamic programming can eliminate repeated computation through structured reuse of intermediate results. Greedy and approximation approaches provide efficient solutions for complex optimization problems where exact computation may be costly. Parallel and randomized algorithms can further improve performance by distributing computation or reducing deterministic processing constraints. However, advanced algorithm design also involves challenges associated with problem complexity, memory consumption, parallelization overhead, algorithm stability, implementation difficulty, and changing computational environments. The study concludes that computational efficiency cannot be achieved through a single algorithmic strategy. Instead, effective algorithm design requires selecting and integrating approaches according to problem characteristics, data scale, computational resources, and performance requirements. |
