Advanced Software Development Models for Future Digital Applications

| Abstract | The rapid evolution of digital technologies has fundamentally changed the requirements associated with software development. Future digital applications are expected to provide high scalability, interoperability, security, intelligence, reliability, personalization, and continuous adaptability across cloud, mobile, web, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and distributed computing environments. Conventional software development models may not adequately address these requirements because modern applications involve continuously changing user expectations, interconnected services, distributed infrastructure, complex data environments, and rapidly evolving technologies. Advanced software development models provide structured approaches for managing these challenges through iterative development, continuous integration, DevOps, Agile methodologies, microservices, component-based engineering, model-driven development, cloud-native approaches, low-code development, artificial intelligence-assisted programming, and continuous software delivery. This study examines advanced software development models for future digital applications and evaluates their contribution to development efficiency, scalability, quality, security, adaptability, maintainability, and innovation. A qualitative descriptive research design based on secondary academic literature was adopted to analyze contemporary software-development models and their technological applications. The analysis demonstrates that iterative and incremental models can improve responsiveness to changing requirements, while DevOps integrates development and operational activities to support continuous delivery. AI-assisted development can support code generation, debugging, testing, documentation, and software analysis. However, advanced models introduce challenges involving architectural complexity, organizational resistance, skills requirements, security, technical debt, dependency management, tool integration, and governance. No single development model is universally appropriate; instead, organizations should adopt hybrid approaches according to application characteristics, organizational capabilities, risk levels, and business requirements. Strategic adoption of advanced software development models can enable organizations to build digital applications that are scalable, secure, maintainable, innovative, and responsive to continuously changing technological and user requirements. |
