Abstract Modern industries operate within increasingly complex technological, economic, environmental, and operational conditions. Rapid digitalization, global competition, resource constraints, equipment failures, cybersecurity risks, supply-chain disruptions, energy requirements, workforce transformation, and sustainability pressures have created challenges that cannot be effectively addressed through conventional engineering practices alone. Intelligent engineering combines engineering principles with artificial intelligence, machine learning, industrial Internet of Things technologies, robotics, digital twins, advanced analytics, automation, simulation, and real-time decision-support systems to improve industrial performance and resilience. This study examines intelligent engineering solutions for modern industrial challenges and develops an integrated conceptual framework connecting industrial problem identification, data acquisition, intelligent analysis, engineering optimization, automated decision-making, implementation, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement. A conceptual descriptive research design was adopted using secondary literature related to smart manufacturing, Industry 4.0, intelligent systems, industrial automation, predictive maintenance, artificial intelligence, digital twins, sustainable engineering, industrial cybersecurity, supply-chain intelligence, and engineering optimization.
The analysis identifies intelligent monitoring, predictive maintenance, AI-supported process optimization, digital twins, robotics, automated quality control, smart energy management, intelligent supply-chain systems, cybersecurity engineering, and data-driven decision-making as major approaches for addressing contemporary industrial challenges. The proposed framework begins with industrial challenge assessment, followed by data collection, system modeling, intelligent analytics, engineering intervention, technology implementation, real-time performance monitoring, evaluation, and adaptive improvement. The findings indicate that intelligent engineering can improve industrial productivity by enabling faster identification of process inefficiencies, equipment degradation, quality deviations, and resource-management problems. Predictive maintenance can reduce unplanned equipment failures by analyzing operational data and identifying early indicators of degradation. Intelligent quality-control systems can identify defects using machine vision, sensor data, and pattern-recognition algorithms, reducing production waste and improving consistency.
