| Abstract | The rapid transformation of transportation systems has created increasing demand for advanced automotive engineering technologies capable of supporting safer, cleaner, more connected, efficient, and intelligent mobility. Conventional automotive systems are being progressively transformed through electrification, autonomous driving, connected vehicles, artificial intelligence, advanced sensing, intelligent control, lightweight materials, digital twins, vehicle-to-everything communication, and advanced energy-management technologies. These developments are changing the traditional concept of the automobile from an independently operated mechanical product into an interconnected cyber-physical mobility platform. This study examines advanced automotive engineering technologies for smart mobility solutions and evaluates their contribution to vehicle efficiency, safety, connectivity, automation, sustainability, intelligent transportation, and user-centered mobility. A qualitative descriptive research design based on secondary academic literature was adopted to examine major technological developments within contemporary automotive engineering. The analysis focuses on electric powertrains, autonomous driving systems, advanced driver-assistance systems, artificial intelligence, machine learning, connected vehicles, vehicle-to-everything communication, battery technologies, lightweight materials, intelligent traffic coordination, predictive maintenance, and digital-twin applications. The findings indicate that electrification represents a major technological pathway for reducing dependence on conventional fossil-fuel-based transportation while improving energy efficiency and supporting integration with renewable electricity systems. Advanced battery-management systems are increasingly important for improving battery safety, lifetime, charging performance, and energy utilization. Autonomous and semi-autonomous driving technologies can improve mobility by combining cameras, radar, LiDAR, ultrasonic sensors, high-definition maps, positioning systems, and artificial intelligence. Connected-vehicle technologies provide communication between vehicles, infrastructure, pedestrians, networks, and cloud platforms, enabling cooperative safety and traffic-management applications. Artificial intelligence strengthens automotive decision-making by processing large quantities of sensor and operational data for perception, prediction, planning, diagnosis, and control. Lightweight materials can reduce vehicle mass and improve energy efficiency, although their manufacturing cost, recyclability, and structural requirements require careful consideration. Digital twins can support vehicle development, simulation, predictive maintenance, and lifecycle optimization by creating dynamic digital representations of physical automotive systems. Smart mobility also requires integration between individual vehicles and broader transportation infrastructure. Intelligent traffic signals, connected roads, mobility platforms, charging infrastructure, and real-time traffic analytics can create more coordinated transportation systems. Despite significant technological progress, challenges remain in cybersecurity, functional safety, data privacy, interoperability, infrastructure investment, battery recycling, regulatory frameworks, algorithmic reliability, extreme environmental conditions, and public acceptance. |
