| Abstract | The transition toward future power systems requires engineering approaches capable of integrating renewable energy resources while maintaining reliability, flexibility, affordability, and environmental sustainability. Solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, biomass, energy storage, smart-grid technologies, power electronics, and advanced control systems are increasingly interconnected within modern electricity networks. This paper examines renewable energy engineering approaches relevant to future power systems through a conceptual and literature-based analysis. The study focuses on renewable generation integration, energy storage, grid flexibility, intelligent power management, distributed generation, and system-level engineering requirements. The analysis indicates that renewable energy technologies can contribute substantially to cleaner electricity systems, but their integration requires coordinated planning, forecasting, storage, transmission development, voltage and frequency management, and advanced control strategies. Major challenges include intermittency, grid stability, infrastructure limitations, energy storage requirements, cybersecurity, and the complexity of coordinating distributed energy resources. Future research should emphasize hybrid renewable systems, advanced storage, artificial intelligence-assisted forecasting, digitalized grids, power-electronic interfaces, and resilient energy architectures. An integrated engineering perspective is essential for developing reliable and sustainable power systems capable of accommodating increasing renewable penetration. |
