| Abstract | Sustainable engineering innovation has become increasingly important for addressing interconnected global development challenges involving resource scarcity, environmental degradation, energy demand, infrastructure limitations, climate-related risks, waste generation, and unequal access to essential technologies. Engineering innovation can contribute to sustainable development by integrating environmental responsibility, technological efficiency, economic feasibility, and social requirements into the design and implementation of technical systems. This paper examines sustainable engineering innovation for global development challenges through a conceptual and literature-based approach. The study focuses on renewable energy technologies, resource-efficient engineering, sustainable infrastructure, circular economy principles, green manufacturing, water management, low-carbon technologies, and digital engineering solutions. The analysis indicates that interdisciplinary engineering approaches can support improved resource utilization, reduced environmental impacts, enhanced infrastructure resilience, and broader access to sustainable technologies. However, implementation remains constrained by financial limitations, technological disparities, infrastructure deficiencies, policy uncertainty, resource availability, skills gaps, and difficulties in scaling innovations across different geographical and socioeconomic conditions. Future research should emphasize affordable sustainable technologies, circular engineering systems, resilient infrastructure, renewable energy integration, low-carbon materials, digital optimization, and context-specific engineering solutions. The study concludes that sustainable engineering innovation requires coordinated technological, economic, environmental, and social approaches to address complex development challenges and support long-term global sustainability. |
