| Abstract | The rapid expansion of connected devices has established the Internet of Things (IoT) as an important technological foundation for smart system development. IoT frameworks integrate sensing, communication, data processing, cloud and edge computing, analytics, and application services to enable connected systems that can monitor environments and support intelligent decision-making. This study examines Internet of Things frameworks for smart system development through a qualitative descriptive and conceptual research design based on secondary academic literature. The study focuses on IoT architecture, sensing and communication technologies, edge and cloud computing, data analytics, artificial intelligence integration, security, interoperability, and application development. The analysis indicates that well-designed IoT frameworks can improve system connectivity, real-time monitoring, automation, scalability, and intelligent decision support. Layered architectures can provide structured coordination between physical devices, communication networks, data-management platforms, and application services. Edge computing can reduce latency by processing information closer to connected devices, while cloud platforms can support scalable storage and computational capabilities. However, IoT development continues to face challenges involving cybersecurity, privacy, heterogeneous devices, interoperability, data management, energy consumption, and system scalability. The study concludes that future IoT frameworks should move toward adaptive, secure, interoperable, and intelligent architectures capable of integrating artificial intelligence with distributed sensing and computing. Future research should investigate decentralized IoT intelligence, explainable analytics, autonomous device management, privacy-preserving architectures, digital twins, and sustainable IoT infrastructures. |
