| Abstract | The rapid growth of connected devices has created new opportunities for monitoring physical environments and managing operational information in real time. Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart monitoring systems integrate sensors, communication networks, edge computing, cloud platforms, databases, and analytical technologies to collect, transmit, process, and manage data continuously. This study examines IoT-based smart monitoring systems with particular emphasis on real-time data management, system architecture, monitoring capabilities, data processing, and operational decision support. A qualitative descriptive research approach based on secondary literature was adopted to examine the technological components and management functions associated with IoT-enabled monitoring. The analysis focuses on sensing technologies, communication mechanisms, edge and cloud processing, data storage, real-time analytics, security, and system scalability. The findings indicate that IoT-based monitoring systems can improve data availability, operational visibility, response speed, automation, and decision-making by transforming continuously generated sensor information into actionable insights. Edge computing can support low-latency processing, while cloud platforms provide scalable storage and computational resources. However, challenges associated with cybersecurity, data quality, interoperability, privacy, network reliability, scalability, and resource limitations can influence system effectiveness. The study concludes that effective IoT monitoring requires an integrated architecture combining reliable sensing, secure connectivity, efficient data processing, intelligent analytics, and appropriate data-management mechanisms. Future research should emphasize adaptive monitoring, edge intelligence, privacy-preserving analytics, autonomous data management, interoperability, and sustainable IoT infrastructures. |
