| Abstract | Smart sensor networks have emerged as an important technological foundation for advanced information processing in connected physical and digital environments. By integrating distributed sensors, wireless communication, edge computing, cloud platforms, data analytics, and intelligent algorithms, these networks can continuously collect and process information from complex environments. This study examines smart sensor networks for advanced information processing, focusing on sensing architecture, communication, distributed processing, data fusion, intelligent analytics, and real-time decision support. A qualitative descriptive and conceptual research design based on secondary academic literature was adopted. The analysis considers the contribution of smart sensor networks to real-time information acquisition, local processing, anomaly detection, predictive analysis, and automated decision-making. The findings indicate that distributed sensing can improve information availability and environmental awareness, while edge processing can reduce latency and unnecessary data transmission. Data-fusion techniques can integrate information from multiple sensing sources to improve interpretation, and artificial intelligence can identify complex patterns within large sensor datasets. Nevertheless, challenges involving sensor reliability, network scalability, energy consumption, interoperability, cybersecurity, privacy, and data quality can restrict practical implementation. The study concludes that effective smart sensor networks require coordinated integration of sensing, communication, distributed computation, data management, and intelligent analytics. Future research should emphasize adaptive sensing, edge intelligence, autonomous network management, secure distributed analytics, energy-efficient architectures, and privacy-preserving information processing. |
