Advanced Autonomous Vehicles Using Intelligent Robotic Technologies

Author(s) Federico Cheli

Abstract Advanced autonomous vehicles represent an important development in intelligent transportation systems through the integration of robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, sensing technologies, navigation systems, and autonomous control. These technologies enable vehicles to perceive their surroundings, interpret environmental conditions, plan movement, and execute driving or mobility tasks with reduced dependence on continuous human control. This paper examines advanced autonomous vehicles using intelligent robotic technologies through a conceptual and literature-based research approach.
The study focuses on perception systems, sensor fusion, localization, path planning, decision-making, vehicle control, artificial intelligence, human–vehicle interaction, and connected transportation technologies. The analysis indicates that intelligent robotic technologies can strengthen autonomous mobility by improving environmental perception, obstacle recognition, navigation, route planning, and adaptive vehicle behavior. However, widespread deployment remains constrained by challenges associated with complex environments, sensor limitations, safety validation, cybersecurity, computational requirements, communication reliability, legal frameworks, and public acceptance.
The study emphasizes that autonomous vehicle performance depends on coordinated integration between sensing, intelligent decision-making, and reliable control mechanisms. Future research should prioritize multimodal perception, explainable artificial intelligence, adaptive planning, cooperative autonomous systems, vehicle-to-everything communication, digital twins, simulation-based validation, and safety-aware autonomous control. The findings highlight the need for robust, trustworthy, and context-aware robotic architectures capable of supporting safe and efficient autonomous mobility.
