Intelligent Control Frameworks for Robotic Applications

Author(s) Dr. James E. Mitchell

Abstract Intelligent control frameworks have become an important foundation for developing robotic systems capable of operating with greater autonomy, adaptability, precision, and efficiency. Conventional robotic control approaches generally depend on predefined models, fixed trajectories, and structured operating conditions, whereas intelligent control incorporates artificial intelligence, machine learning, adaptive algorithms, sensor fusion, optimization, and decision-making mechanisms. This study examines intelligent control frameworks for robotic applications, focusing on control architectures, perception, adaptive control, learning-based control, optimization, trajectory planning, and autonomous decision-making. A qualitative descriptive and conceptual research design was adopted using secondary academic literature.
The analysis indicates that intelligent control can improve robotic performance by enabling systems to adapt control actions according to changing environmental conditions, sensor information, task requirements, and operational constraints. Model-based and learning-based methods can support motion control, navigation, manipulation, path planning, and collaborative robotics. However, practical implementation is affected by computational requirements, model uncertainty, sensor noise, training-data requirements, real-time constraints, safety, explainability, and system integration.
The study concludes that intelligent robotic control requires coordinated integration of perception, planning, learning, optimization, and low-level control. Future research should emphasize adaptive and reinforcement-learning control, edge intelligence, safe learning, human-robot collaboration, multimodal sensing, explainable decision-making, and robust control frameworks capable of operating reliably in dynamic and uncertain environments.
