| Abstract | The integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies into manufacturing is transforming conventional production environments into connected, intelligent, and data-driven industrial systems. IoT-enabled smart manufacturing connects machines, sensors, production equipment, industrial networks, and analytical platforms to facilitate continuous monitoring, information exchange, predictive analysis, and operational decision-making. This paper examines IoT-enabled smart manufacturing for industrial optimization through a conceptual and literature-based research approach. The study focuses on connected manufacturing equipment, real-time production monitoring, predictive maintenance, quality management, production scheduling, energy management, supply-chain coordination, and intelligent decision support. The analysis demonstrates that IoT technologies can improve industrial visibility by continuously collecting information from production processes and converting operational data into actionable insights. Edge computing can support low-latency processing, while cloud platforms provide scalable data storage and analytics. Machine learning can further support anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, quality assessment, and production optimization. However, the implementation of IoT-enabled manufacturing remains associated with challenges involving cybersecurity, interoperability, legacy infrastructure, data quality, implementation costs, workforce capabilities, scalability, and system reliability. The study emphasizes the importance of integrated IoT architectures combining sensing devices, industrial communication networks, edge and cloud computing, analytics, and manufacturing management platforms. Future research should investigate intelligent digital twins, edge-based analytics, AI-driven predictive optimization, interoperable industrial architectures, sustainable manufacturing, and autonomous production systems. The study concludes that IoT-enabled smart manufacturing can provide a strong foundation for industrial optimization when connectivity, intelligent analytics, cybersecurity, interoperability, and human-centered operational management are integrated throughout the manufacturing lifecycle. |
