Abstract Smart digital ecosystems represent interconnected technological environments in which devices, platforms, applications, data resources, and users interact through connected technologies. The rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, edge computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, wireless communication, and intelligent data analytics has expanded the capabilities of digitally connected environments. This study examines smart digital ecosystems using connected technologies, with particular emphasis on interoperability, real-time data exchange, intelligent decision-making, automation, scalability, security, and sustainable digital development. A qualitative descriptive and conceptual research design was adopted using secondary academic literature. The analysis indicates that connected technologies enable organizations and communities to integrate heterogeneous devices and information systems into coordinated digital environments.
IoT devices provide continuous data collection, communication networks facilitate information exchange, edge computing supports low-latency processing, and cloud platforms provide scalable computational resources. Artificial intelligence can transform connected data into predictive insights and automated decisions. Smart digital ecosystems have applications in smart cities, healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, energy management, education, and public services. However, challenges involving interoperability, cybersecurity, privacy, data quality, technological complexity, scalability, and governance remain important barriers.
The study concludes that effective smart digital ecosystems require integrated architectures capable of connecting technologies while maintaining secure, reliable, adaptive, and user-centered operations. Future research should focus on intelligent interoperability, decentralized architectures, edge-cloud integration, AI-enabled coordination, privacy-preserving analytics, sustainable infrastructure, and standardized ecosystem governance.
