Abstract The integration of Internet of Things technologies into healthcare has created opportunities for continuous, connected, and intelligent patient monitoring. Intelligent healthcare monitoring systems can connect wearable devices, medical sensors, smart equipment, mobile platforms, and healthcare information systems to collect and transmit patient-related information in real time. This study examines the role of IoT technologies in intelligent healthcare monitoring through a conceptual and literature-based research approach.
The study focuses on connected medical devices, wearable sensors, remote patient monitoring, wireless communication, cloud computing, edge computing, artificial intelligence, and healthcare data analytics. IoT-enabled monitoring systems can facilitate continuous observation of physiological parameters, support early identification of abnormal conditions, improve remote healthcare delivery, and provide healthcare professionals with timely information for decision support. Wearable sensors can collect information such as heart rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, activity patterns, and other relevant physiological indicators, while communication technologies enable information transfer to healthcare platforms. Cloud and edge computing can support data storage and processing, whereas artificial intelligence can analyze monitoring data to identify patterns and potential risks. Despite these opportunities, IoT-based healthcare monitoring faces challenges related to data privacy, cybersecurity, device interoperability, network reliability, energy consumption, data quality, scalability, and patient acceptance.
The effectiveness of intelligent monitoring depends on secure system architecture, reliable sensing technologies, standardized information exchange, appropriate analytical models, and human oversight. The study concludes that IoT technologies can strengthen healthcare monitoring by connecting patients, devices, professionals, and information systems within an integrated digital environment. Future research should emphasize secure IoT architectures, edge intelligence, artificial intelligence integration, energy-efficient devices, interoperability, privacy-preserving analytics, and human-centered monitoring solutions. Properly designed IoT-enabled monitoring systems can contribute to proactive, continuous, coordinated, and patient-centered healthcare delivery.
