| Abstract | Intelligent patient monitoring systems are becoming an important component of digital healthcare through the integration of artificial intelligence, Internet of Things technologies, wearable sensors, remote monitoring devices, cloud computing, data analytics, and digital health platforms. Conventional patient monitoring often depends on periodic clinical observations and hospital-based assessments, whereas intelligent systems can facilitate continuous or near-continuous collection and analysis of patient information. This study examines intelligent patient monitoring systems and their role in digital healthcare through a conceptual and literature-based research approach. The study focuses on wearable devices, connected medical equipment, physiological sensors, artificial intelligence, machine learning, remote patient monitoring, cloud platforms, and intelligent clinical decision-support mechanisms. These technologies can support the collection of physiological information such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature, activity patterns, and other clinically relevant indicators. Artificial intelligence and data analytics can assist in identifying patterns, detecting abnormal conditions, supporting risk assessment, and generating information for healthcare professionals. Remote monitoring can also facilitate healthcare delivery outside conventional hospital environments and may support continuity of care for patients requiring regular observation. However, intelligent monitoring systems face challenges involving data quality, privacy, cybersecurity, interoperability, device reliability, false alerts, infrastructure requirements, professional training, patient acceptance, and regulatory considerations. Effective implementation therefore requires secure connectivity, reliable sensing, appropriate analytical models, clinical validation, interoperable systems, and professional oversight. The study concludes that intelligent patient monitoring systems can strengthen digital healthcare by supporting continuous observation, timely information exchange, proactive healthcare management, and patient engagement. Future research should investigate multimodal monitoring, explainable artificial intelligence, edge computing, digital twins, predictive healthcare analytics, secure IoT architectures, personalized monitoring, and human-centered system design. |
