| Abstract | Smart learning environments have emerged as technology-enabled educational ecosystems that combine intelligent digital platforms, artificial intelligence, learning analytics, cloud collaboration, mobile technologies, adaptive systems, and interactive learning resources to facilitate collaborative knowledge development. Unlike conventional digital learning environments, smart learning systems can respond to learner activities, provide contextual resources, support communication, and facilitate data-informed instructional decisions. This study examines smart learning environments for collaborative knowledge development, focusing on intelligent collaboration, adaptive learning, digital knowledge sharing, AI-supported interaction, learning analytics, mobile learning, and cloud-based educational platforms. A qualitative descriptive and conceptual research design was adopted using secondary academic literature. The analysis indicates that smart learning environments can support collaborative knowledge construction by connecting learners with peers, teachers, digital resources, and intelligent educational tools. Cloud platforms facilitate simultaneous knowledge creation and resource sharing, while learning analytics can provide information concerning participation and group interaction. Artificial intelligence can support recommendation, feedback, conversational learning, and collaborative problem-solving. Smart environments can also enhance flexibility by allowing learners to collaborate across physical and virtual settings. Nevertheless, successful implementation requires attention to technological infrastructure, digital literacy, privacy, cybersecurity, platform interoperability, unequal access, teacher preparedness, and responsible use of intelligent technologies. The study concludes that smart learning environments can strengthen collaborative knowledge development when technology is purposefully aligned with pedagogy, social interaction, learner autonomy, inclusive access, and effective educational governance. |
