Data-Driven Business Models for Strategic Decision-Making

Author(s) Dr. Sophie K. Reinhardt

Abstract Data-driven business models have become increasingly important for organizations seeking to strengthen strategic decision-making through systematic collection, analysis, and application of organizational and market information. The integration of big data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, business intelligence, cloud computing, and digital platforms enables organizations to identify patterns, evaluate performance, understand customer behavior, and support strategic planning. This study examines data-driven business models for strategic decision-making, focusing on data infrastructure, analytical capabilities, business intelligence, predictive analytics, customer insights, operational optimization, and organizational decision processes. A qualitative descriptive and conceptual research design was adopted using secondary academic literature. The analysis indicates that data-driven business models can support evidence-informed planning, customer-oriented strategies, operational efficiency, innovation, risk assessment, and resource allocation.
Real-time analytics can improve organizational responsiveness, while predictive models can provide information concerning potential market developments and operational requirements. However, effective implementation is influenced by data quality, privacy, cybersecurity, analytical skills, technology integration, organizational culture, and governance requirements. The study concludes that data-driven business models can strengthen strategic decision-making when organizations establish reliable data infrastructures, develop analytical capabilities, integrate data with business strategy, and maintain appropriate human oversight. Sustainable value creation requires a combination of technological capabilities, managerial expertise, responsible data governance, and continuous organizational learning.
