| Abstract | Rapid urbanization, population growth, infrastructure pressures, and increasing environmental challenges have created a need for innovative approaches to urban development. Smart city frameworks provide integrated models for improving urban infrastructure, public services, environmental management, mobility, energy utilization, and citizen participation through digital and intelligent technologies. This study examines smart city frameworks for sustainable urban growth, with particular emphasis on Internet of Things technologies, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, smart mobility, renewable energy, intelligent infrastructure, digital governance, and sustainable resource management. A qualitative descriptive and conceptual research design was adopted using secondary academic literature. The study analyzes how interconnected technologies can support efficient urban planning, resource conservation, environmental monitoring, transportation management, and public-service delivery. Smart sensors can generate real-time information regarding traffic, energy consumption, air quality, water systems, and waste management, while advanced analytics can support evidence-based urban decision-making. Artificial intelligence can contribute to traffic optimization, demand forecasting, infrastructure management, and predictive urban services. However, smart city development faces challenges related to financial investment, technological infrastructure, cybersecurity, data privacy, digital inequality, interoperability, governance complexity, and long-term system maintenance. The study emphasizes that sustainable smart cities require integrated frameworks connecting technological innovation with environmental responsibility, social inclusion, economic resilience, and participatory governance. Future research should investigate AI-enabled urban planning, low-carbon smart infrastructure, digital twins, intelligent mobility systems, renewable energy integration, sustainable water management, and inclusive digital governance. A comprehensive smart city framework can support urban growth while improving resource efficiency, environmental quality, infrastructure resilience, and quality of urban services. |
