| Abstract | Artificial intelligence has increasingly become an enabling technology for multidisciplinary research by supporting data integration, automated analysis, knowledge discovery, predictive modelling, and collaborative research practices. The integration of AI across disciplines can connect methodologies from computer science, engineering, business, social sciences, environmental studies, healthcare, and other research domains. This study examines the role of artificial intelligence integration in advancing multidisciplinary research, with particular emphasis on intelligent data analysis, cross-disciplinary knowledge integration, automated research processes, collaborative platforms, and evidence-based decision-making. A qualitative descriptive research design was adopted using secondary academic literature and thematic analysis. The analysis indicates that AI can improve multidisciplinary research through large-scale data processing, pattern recognition, natural language processing, predictive analytics, machine learning, and intelligent knowledge management. AI-supported research environments can facilitate the integration of heterogeneous datasets and accelerate the identification of relationships that may remain difficult to detect through conventional approaches. However, challenges involving data quality, algorithmic bias, explainability, interoperability, research integrity, privacy, computational requirements, and differences in disciplinary methodologies may limit effective integration. The study emphasizes the importance of transparent AI systems, interdisciplinary collaboration, standardized data structures, ethical governance, human oversight, and appropriate researcher training. Future research should investigate explainable AI for multidisciplinary research, autonomous literature synthesis, cross-domain knowledge graphs, AI-assisted research design, multimodal research systems, and responsible human-AI collaboration. Strategic AI integration can strengthen multidisciplinary research capacity when technological capabilities are combined with rigorous methodological standards and domain-specific expertise. |
